Hello, Subscriber First NameWe hope you had a delicious Thanksgiving abundant of food and fellowship. Our Thanksgiving was familiar with all of our favorite foods that speak the day to us. Our menu included a turkey my mom raised, a ham we raised, mashed potatoes my mom grew, dripping gravy, stuffing from my GF sourdough bread, regular and gluten-free rolls, green beans, roasted maple brussels, salad from my mom’s garden, and homemade cranberry sauce. A tasty dessert of homemade apple with gluten-free crust and pumpkin pie with grain-free crust topped with raw whipping cream from our local herd share completed our feast! Now we enjoy leftovers and the gentle roll and hearty steam of turkey broth bubbling away in my very biggest pot on the stove. I have mixed feelings about Thanksgiving, but at a superficial level and out of nostalgia, I enjoy a day focused on abundance and gratitude, which is what the day signifies for me. I reflect on many people and things that have shaped me. This day is usually filled with all the feels for me. The reason for this newsletter is to say THANK YOU, subscribers! Each newsletter I write is like a little message from my heart tied to a tumbleweed and thrown into the wind. I never know if anyone will read my letters, but I reach someone with each press of send. My days are quiet, not in the sense of being soundless; Clancy produces plenty of noise and entertainment. But, despite the shenanigans of a toddler, my ears are often empty, longing for friendly companionship and a sense of community. I’ll be the first to confess that I don’t put myself out there for building friendships; I’m introverted and awkward. Making plans or even responding to messages comes mystifyingly as a challenge, not to mention the separating factor of motherhood. So cultivating deeper, especially in-person, friendships is difficult. My mission with this newsletter has always been to stay connected; to share our unique life with friends and family. It quickly transformed into a way for building a community around myself as a rural creative mother and wife passionate about an unconventional way of living and eating that used to be conventional before we began inventing, I suppose I could say. With each newsletter, I get to have a one-sided conversation with dozens of you, and sometimes you email back, and we have a small email volley, and we connect.
